RWJ PLUM II AMBULATORY MEDICAL PAVILION
A patient-centered ambulatory care facility designed to enhance comfort, efficiency, and clinical workflow within a modern healthcare environment.

Plum II is a 15-story ambulatory medical center designed to establish a new design language for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital outpatient network. The concept introduces a cohesive material palette, intuitive wayfinding, and refined hospitality inspired public spaces to unify clinical, diagnostic, and staff environments. The initial concept presentation set the visual and spatial tone for the full building development.

As Lead Designer for the concept phase, I developed the design vision, material direction, preliminary planning, and public space identity which served as the foundation for the larger project rollout.

DESIGN NARRATIVE

The design direction for Plum II focused on redefining RWJ’s interior identity through a cleaner, more contemporary palette that emphasized clarity, durability, and a calm patient experience. Working alongside the principal, I led the conceptual development for all public circulation, clinical floors, amenity areas, and waiting zones, introducing a warm, hospitality-infused material strategy that contrasted RWJ’s dated standards. The concept blends soft neutrals, wood accents, and subtle color cues to support intuitive wayfinding and reduce stress across the 15-story vertical campus. The resulting design established a new template for RWJ’s future buildings, balancing clinical performance with a more welcoming and modern visual language.

PROGRAMMING & CONCEPT PRESENTATION

Complete programming and concept presentation developed and delivered to RWJ leadership and executive stakeholders. This package established the building’s interior identity, material direction, preliminary floor plans, circulation strategy, and the updated design language that informed all public, clinical, and staff areas.

FLOOR PLAN

FLOORING DESIGN — CUSTOM TERRAZZO

Custom terrazzo flooring design featuring hand-selected aggregate chips arranged in a gradient that transitions from the exterior glazing into the main lobby. This detail reinforces the building’s material concept and creates a subtle sense of movement and arrival within the public entry sequence.
